In many parts of Italy, Ravano Green Power has already realised turnkey photovoltaic plants

Power is green

In a world that is warming, when pollution has become the most important problem in our lives, people must be sensible and begin decreasing CO2 emissions. This is the main reason why Giovanni Ravano started working and investing in renewable energy. For the same reason, Ravano Green Power, a major player in the Italian renewable energy market, has increased its attempts to use natural sources like wind, sun, water, biogas and biomass to produce 100% renewable energy. Today Ravano Green Power is still a small player in the Italian energy market, but its impact on green energy production is increasing.

Ravano Green Power was only established in 2006, but its parent company, the Ravano Group, which was born as Carbotrade in 1981, can look back on almost 30 years in the energy market. As early as the 1990s, the Ravano Group began to invest in renewable energy. Due to its investments in renewable sources, it was able to build five hydroelectric power stations with a capacity of seven MWwithin only five years. Another key project was the construction of two hydroelectric power stations in the Aosta Valley in 2004 and the building of a cogeneration plant of 20 MWin Bardonecchia, where Ravano invested about 26.5 million EUR, in 2004.

“These are only two examples of our early activities in the renewable energy sector,” says President Dott. Giovanni Ravano. “Today, we aim to further develop clean energy by constructing renewable power stations and building photovoltaic power systems for power supply. But respect for the environment and renewable energy production are just one side of the coin; legislation is another. This is why at the age of 52, I went back to school and learned all about legislative prerequisites.”

Above all, Ravano Green Power focuses on the development of power stations which are fed by renewable energy sources like sun, wind, water, biomass and biogas. Moreover, it is active in the supply of photovoltaic turnkey plants for residential customers, commercial and public authorities and acts as an EPC contractor which develops, projects and sets up photovoltaic power stations for investors.

“Our entire business focuses on renewable energy in one form or another. We want to live up to the protection of the ecosystem and the distribution of clean energy throughout Italy. Currently, our activities focus exclusively on the Italian market, and we are active in Sicily, Lazio, Umbria, Tuscany, Piedmont and Lombardy,” points out Dott. Ravano. “We have not been touched by any crisis. Quite on the contrary, I dare say.”

In 2009, Ravano installed three new photovoltaic turnkey plants. “The prospects for the future of photovoltaic energy are quite positive, and new projects are already under way,” adds Dott. Ravano. In 2007, Ravano opened a new office in Rome in order to manage more efficiently its widespread green energy activities throughout Italy. Currently, the group employs a workforce of 85 people, 35 of whom work in the renewable energy division. “Last year, we were able to generate a turnover of 25 million EUR, and after high investments in the past two to five years, we are now in a position to benefit from our investments and our commitment into this striving sector,” states Dott. Ravano. “Knowledge, determination and courage have supported our activities.”

The result has been a growing concern for the impact of renewable energy on the total energy market. “We are keen on being perfect and aim at providing the best solutions green technology can offer,” adds Dott. Ravano. “The high quality of our technology and plants has helped us in finding new customers and investors. An exceptionally high quality is essential as renewable energy plants have to be operated for a period of at least 20 years before they amortise.”

For 2010, Ravano Green Power predicts continuous growth. New projects for the construction of renewable energy plants and photovoltaic power systems are in the planning and will determine the company’s future activities. Renewable energy has become the driving force of Ravano Green Power: Power is green.
